Cultures Littéraires Européennes (CLE) Scholarships at Erasmus Mundus

The CLE Masters Course in European Literary Cultures aims at preparing European and International graduates for professions in which is requested the knowledge of: 1) at least three languages; 2) the different methodologies in at least three cultural fields as for example History of Literature, Texts Analysis, History, History of Art, History of Ideas.

The main objective of the Masters Course is to train a cultural operator / a researcher / a teacher to have a good range of methodologies and a high cultural appreciation of the different contexts of European culture which enable a comparison with other cultures. The main characteristic of this profile is the combination of the historical-linguistic skills, also at an advanced level, and a high knowledge of other disciplines. These profiles are characterized by the continual application of the linguistic and cultural skills within an analytical and critical perspective.

The CLE master program in European literary cultures offers education in at least three European cultural and linguistic domains spanning a large area of thought from literature to history through the language sciences.

Participating universities :

The consortium offering this Masters programme is made up of:

  • The University of Bologna (Italy)
  • The University of Haute-Alsace (Mulhouse-France)
  • The University of Strasbourg (France)
  • The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece)

Students will study in two or three different universities. The duration of the full-time programme is 24 months. At the end of the Masters Course, the consortium universities provide a double or multiple degree.

Admission criteria for the students
In order to apply to the CLE Master, both third-country and European students must:

  1. Possess a BA-equivalent diploma (180 credits) allowing access to education Bac + 5 (i.e. a « Laurea triennale », a « Licence complète » or a Bachelor of Arts, etc.);
  2. Know at least English and the language of the University of the consortium where they intend to spend their first year in the programme.

Selection criteria for the students
The Committee of the consortium coordinators will meet in February to decide on all the applications.
After rejecting the applications which do not fulfil the general requirements, a ranking of the applicants will be prepared on the basis of 4 criteria :

  1. diploma (final grade), curriculum studiorum and exams grades;
  2. known languages;
  3. curriculum vitae;
  4. geographical equilibrium.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships
A number of scholarships financed by the European Uni0n is reserved to students with brilliant academic records, on a competitive basis.

Category A
Scholarships for third country students
Deadline: January 10, 2012

ONLINE APPLICATION

CATEGORY A SCHOLARSHIP
“category A” Scholarships may be granted to masters students who:

  1. come from a country outside of the European community (that is, the Member States of the EU, EFTA / EEA – Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and
  2. who are neither residents nor have exercised their main activity (studies, work, etc..) for over 12 months in total over the last five years in one or more of the countries mentioned above.

Students are not allowed to apply for more than 3 Erasmus Mundus Master Courses for the years 2012-2014.
CLE consortium may ask Europe to a maximum of 2 scholarships of CATEGORY A in the window of the Western Balkans and Turkey

NOTE:
Switzerland, Turkey and Western Balkan countries are considered third countries (Communication of 19 November 2009 – European Commission)

  • Contribution to travel costs and installation : 8 000 €
  • Costs of participation in the Erasmus Mundus Master CLE (including insurance) : 12 600 € or 3.150 €/semester
  • Monthly allowance : 24 000 € or 1 000 €/ month
  • Total (for two academic years) : 44 600 €

Category B
Scholarships for European and third-country students
Deadline: January 10, 2012

APPLICATION FORM

SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORY B To be eligible for selection, candidates must :

  1. have acquired a Bachelor degree (180 credits) providing access to training in Bac + 5,
  2. be a national of one of the 27 EU Member States or EFTA / EEA – Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway or, in the case of extra European citizens, be admitted to the program as a third-country national or resident who has exercised their main activities (studies, work, etc..) for over 12 months in total during the previous five years in one or more of the countries mentioned above;
  3. not have applied for more than 3 Erasmus Mundus Master Courses for the years 2012-2014;
  4. complete the online application and have printed, signed and submitted it with all the required documents. The documentation must be received by the CLE before January 10, 2012

NOTE:
Switzerland, Turkey and Western Balkan countries are considered third countries.

Scholarships Class B should be considered a “financial contribution” to the cost of student studying MEM CLE.

  • Maximum contribution to the cost of participating in EM Masters CLE (including insurance cover) : 7 800 € (1 950 €/ semester)
  • Monthly allowance : 11 500 € (500 €/month)
  • Total (for two academic years) : 19.300 €
