A PhD position
is now open in the field of Epidemiology of HIV related cancer in Southern Africa, Europe and North America in the Division of International & Environmental Health (for a period of 3 years).
The aim of the project is to examine the epidemiology of AIDS-defining cancer in HIVinfected persons in Southern Africa and compare results with incidence rates and outcomes in high-income countries in Europe and North America based on large data sets from prospective cohort studies. The study will be done in close collaboration with collaborators in Southern Africa, Europe and North America, as well as the HIV/AIDS and cancer research groups at ISPM Bern.
The PhD student will be responsible for the analysis of several large HIV cohorts in Europe, Northern America and Southern Africa.
Specifically the candidate will be involved in
‐ data cleaning
‐ statistical analysis of incidence and risk factors, survival and prognostic factors for HIV related cancer
‐ reporting, presentation and publication of results
University degree in Medicine, Epidemiology, Public Health, Biology, Statistics or related fields; interest in epidemiology of HIV related malignancies; intermediate biostatistics; working knowledge of statistical software, ideally STATA.
The candidate needs to be self-motivated with good organizational and communicational skills. S/he should bring critical thinking skills and ability to work in a team. Good knowledge in English is essential.
Salary is based on the salary scale of the Swiss National Science Foundation (www.snsf.ch). Recruiting process starts immediately.
