LSE Cities is seeking a Research Fellow to lead research that will improve our understanding of the links between city and metropolitan governance and the built environment.  The post-holder will develop and lead a programme of interdisciplinary, innovative and international research under the theme of Urban Governance focusing on one or several of the following areas: local and institutional accountability; management of public services, including transport and infrastructure sustainable cities and planning; formal and informal development; investment, design and infrastructure.

Candidates will have completed, or nearly completed, a PhD in  Public Policy/Management, Political Science or a related discipline, and will have published work in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals.  Experience of working in or with inter-disciplinary teams will also be required.

University of Oxford – The Oxford-Princeton Global Leaders Programme

Stipend:              GBP 35,788 p.a. (year 1 in Oxford)

                            USD 56,500 p.a. (year  2 in Princeton)

Applications are invited from nationals of non-OECD countries for a number of two-year fellowships to work on global governance and the role of developing and emerging countries in the world political economy.  Up to six such fellowships will be awarded to start in September 2012, for a year’s study at Oxford followed by a year at Princeton.  Post-holders will be provided with appropriate stipends sufficient to cover full living costs. The programme intends to establish a network of leading scholar-practitioners in global governance.

Applicants must be nationals of non-OECD countries (this is a condition stipulated by the donor).  They must have completed (or have evidence of imminent completion of) a doctorate in a relevant area.  They should also show evidence of outstanding analytical and research skills.  In addition, candidates will be required to demonstrate their plans for a clearly articulated research project which is relevant to the Programme’s aims.

University of Oxford – Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict (ELAC)

Grade 7: £ 29,099 – £35,788 per annum
Applications are invited for a three-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict (ELAC) as part of a new collaborative research project with the 3TU. Centre for Ethics and Technology, Delft: ‘Military Enhancement: Design for Responsibility and Combat Systems’.
The post will specifically focus on the research theme ‘The Changing Context of the Ethics and Laws of War: Technology, Norms and Strategy’, working in close collaboration with one other Post-Doctoral Research Fellow based at 3TU and a Senior Research Network.
The project is funded by the Dutch Research Council NWO, and the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will be employed by the Delft University of Technology, but seconded to and based at the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) at the University of Oxford.
